Meet the maker Isobel Scott
I have loved art and craft since childhood, so my shop is named after my grandmother, who taught me to crochet when I was seven. I have been making jewellery since 2006.
My aim is to make striking but elegant jewellery pieces which you won't find anywhere else. I love to design unusual wire-worked brooches, earrings, bracelets, necklaces and rings embellished with Czech glass, semi-precious stones or Swarovski crystal beads. I enjoy the process of manipulating something as simple as metal wire into unique jewellery, and decided early on not to buy in any metal components. I make them all by hand, including chains, ear-wires, clasps, jump-rings and brooch-pins. Each piece is bent, twisted, coiled, wrapped, hammered, cut or rolled using simple hand-tools.
The only finished components I buy in are the beads, although I also make my own from polymer clay, when I like to use bright swirls of colour with metal foils, which look a bit like lamp-work. I travel regularly to the Czech Republic, where I have been inspired by the sense of design you see everywhere, and have bought beads there which I have been unable to find in the UK or on the internet. I purchase semi-precious beads from outlets in South Devon, and I also like to support my local bead-shop.
I often work with silver-plated copper, copper, or bronze wire, which can look stunning without being expensive, and I also make pieces in silver or gold wire to order. Ear-wires are made from sterling silver wire, although bronze or copper ear-wires, (for occasional wear), can be made to match earrings.
I love making up a new design, and will try it out in several different colours or formats; but then I like to move on to the next thing. This means that I usually only make a few pieces of each design, in different versions and colours, so you really can have something unique!
