Meet the maker LouLou & Will Farrell
We added "Holmes" to the business name last year in homage to LouLou's grandmother (Will’s great grandmother) Elizabeth Holmes. Each of us spent many childhood rainy days and holidays sewing, sticking, cutting and generally creating with Betty. She instilled in us both a life-long love and appreciation of hand-crafting which continues to inspire us to this day.
Working in textiles and paper, upcycling where possible and employing the idea of make-do and mend, we make sure nothing goes to waste.
LouLou: "I love to work with fabrics, ribbon, lace and buttons and have a growing collection of them, filling every nook and cranny of the Farrell & Holmes studio. I find inspiration in many places, from children’s fairy tales, Russian dolls, and Victorian scrap books to retro tin toys and fairgrounds. Every scrap is kept for its potential to be turned into tiny bunting or appliquéd onto cotton shopping bags or just in case it might be the perfect finishing touch to a new creation – you never know when it might come in handy!"
Will: "I prefer to work in paper and enjoy upcycling old, unused and unloved items to give them a new lease of life. I cannot resist a rummage through any antique shop or vintage boutique in the search for some forgotten children’s books, maps or annuals which are then transformed into gorgeous origami baubles and even the smallest oddments of paper are turned into ingenious bookmarks."
