Meet the maker Victoria Thomas
I am an artist from South Wales in the UK. I have been making jewellery for the past 2 years and I am exploring bead embroidery. I love the versatility of bead embroidery and the beads act like my palette allowing me to mix colours and shapes with the freedom of a painterly style. I also do a lot of bead stringing however I am now focussing on the embroidery.
I studied fine art practice at the University of Glamorgan 10 years ago. I am incorporating my drawing and painting skills into wearable art.
I am inspired by music, words and colour. I have found huge influence from the American bead embroiderers such as Sherry Serafini and I hope to bring a lot of what I consider to be beautiful to British soil.
Where possible I try to use fairtrade beads and buy focal beads from artists. I also like to use found items and recycled items and make my own beads from plastic, clay and paper.
My jewellery has been featured in Making Jewellery magazine and I have written 3 projects for the magazine to date.
One of my pieces was commended in the Happy Mango Beads 'Bead Scary' competition - Halloween 2010.
I hope you enjoy my jewellery as much as I love making it! Please keep coming back as I am always making something new,
