Meet the maker Sarah Harrhy

I have been exceptionally lucky to inherit ‘the sewing gene’ which has been handed down from generation to generation in my mother’s family. As a young child I would sit with my mother as she ‘ran up’ pretty dress after pretty dress for my sister and me. For Christmas one year I became the very proud owner of a small blue plastic sewing machine and this is where the story of my love for sewing began.

As time passed, I married and had children of my own; my love for sewing took a back seat. I made Roman blinds for our home but had little time for anything else until last year when I dusted off my sewing machine, plugged my ipod in and found my heart singing as the sewing machined whirred.

This brings my story (so far) to today. I needed a name, an identity for my business, something that encompassed the things I wanted to make and my heritage. Bagolo means ‘bag of coal’. The bag bit is obvious, so why coal? I was born and raised in a Welsh coal mining valley. My grandfather mined the coal that I watched being delivered in bags as I walked to school as a child.

Everything I am selling is handmade by me. I hand select and source the best quality fabrics, metal hardware and cotton strap webbing for each bag. All my items are one of a kind or limited editions and made to the highest standard. It is of the upmost importance to me that you enjoy your bag as much as I have loved making it so please contact me if you have any questions or would like further photographs of a particular item.
