Meet the maker Adrienne Hughes

I've been mucking about with arty things since I was knee-high to a grasshopper and finally took the plunge to leave teaching in January 2018 and become a full-time artist. My work is informed by a love of nature-colours, shapes and textures and is often inspired by a trip to the sea.

Now that I have my own studio I can play with a wide range of techniques...pen & ink sketches, water-colour, acrylic painting, mosaic, digital art, photography, silk-screen, collage, sculpture and lino-cuts. I'm even throwing myself into ceramics again after a gap of forty years!

I love to travel and visit galleries and exhibitions for inspiration. Artists who inspire me include Hockney, Van Gogh, Picasso, Matisse, Miro, Kahlo, Mary Fedden, Barbara Rae & Gillian Ayres. You may spot their influence in my work.
