Meet the maker Michelle Martin

I am an artist living on a narrow-boat called Willowmoor Art Workshop.
My past was designing for pottery companies, and the last place I worked was Moorcroft where I designed and also painted the pots.
My favourite is painting in very fine detail which you can see in some of my portraits, I paint my portraits using 50% cotton Fabriano watercolour paper with a smooth finish, it does not look like ordinary watercolour paper with a texture to it. This is how I get very fine detail in my portraits. I also use Windsor & Newton watercolour paints.
Portraits can take up to 3 weeks to paint or draw.

In the past I have experimented with silk and handmade paper, now I find it easy to do certain products with ease like the handmade books and vase made with silk on glass.
My narrow boat is also like a shop and I get to travel the canal network selling my art along the way at good locations. You can find more info on Michelle @
