Meet the maker Lisa McNaughton
I've been an English teacher for eleven years and have always been a keen crafter. The obsession began with fabric: I love it. I learned to use a sewing machine at eleven and made a pair of trousers. Since then, I've made toys, handbags and soft furnishings. I did courses at college to consolidate what I knew, and to gain confidence in putting in zips! During this time, I started to make appliques using beads and buttons and this began a second love.
For anyone who makes jewellery, you'll know how difficult it is to see pretty beads and not buy them! This, coupled with my love of bright, unusual jewellery, began a new hobby. I've been making jewellery for a few years now and have sold some to friends and family. After the birth of my second son in October, I decided that I'd like to work more from home, and so I am embarking on 'Vintuous', which-bizarrely-came to me in a dream! Honestly!
I wanted, initially, to make 'Vintage-style' accessories (hats/aprons/stoles) and jewellery from reclaimed buttons and beads-hence the mix of 'Vintage' and 'Virtuous'. That's my aim!
