Meet the maker Tracey Arnold
I am the 'mad chainmailler'. I make unusual jewellery using the ancient art of chainmaille, adapted weaves from what used to be used as armour in medieval days. Who would have thought that something beautiful could come from what is essentially medieval armour?
I make my jewellery from unconventional materials such as aluminium, not such a bright metal as sterling silver but much more affordable and lighter. It doesn't tarnish or wear out like silver plated jewellery and can be kept shiny just by using a bit of washing up liquid and a soft cloth!
I can make items to order and also make pieces in sterling silver but due to the cost of silver I will normally only do it as a custom order.
I love chainmaille, it takes me back to what being British is all about, I find it earthy and grounded and I think that it's uniqueness takes it forward into the 21st Century. What do you think?
