Meet the maker

My name is Julie Filmer and I can't remember a time when I haven't stitched. It's an addiction, together with my obsession for collecting beautiful fabrics, trims and buttons.

As a child, I loved sewing and making, and this passion has never left me. I trained and worked as a teacher where my creativity was put to good use, but after the birth of my first child I started stitching again in earnest. I achieved a City and Guilds Level 3 in Stitched Textiles and then with much support and encouragement from my friends and family, decided to set up The Peacock Emporium. I haven't looked back!

I still can't quite believe how lucky I am to have made my passion into a career. I now have particular interest in all things vintage and shabby chic. My pieces are lovingly made in my Norfolk studio using small pieces of sourced vintage and retro-feel fabrics. In particular, much of my work uses Cath Kidston and Laura Ashley fabrics and also fabrics from my ever-increasing stash of vintage finds; including tweeds and liberty floral prints. Each textile has been carefully designed and is a unique one-off. I specialise in free maching applique and I gladly take commissions - so if you like what you see I can make more or similar.

I hope you get as much pleasure from my pieces as I do from making them.
