Meet the maker Gayle Andrews
Taught by a local artist, many of my pieces are based on a folk art form of mosaic called ‘pique-assiette’. The name is French and means "one who eats from others' plates". Pique-assiette incorporates pieces of broken ceramics and other found objects into the design. I have found this art form the perfect medium for someone with ‘magpie tendencies’ like myself, often leading to the use of reclaimed, recycled and found items within my work.
“Left behind but not,
forgotten... This broken piece,
finds peace in your hands”
Taking my inspiration from the natural world, I also use polymer clay to produce my own tesserae, which I incorporate into my unique designs.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss a commission, please do not hesitate to contact me. For more regular news on my work, you can follow me on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/tanglebirddesign
