Meet the maker

I was born in Ashington in 1971 and brought up in north Northumberland, which left an indelible impression on me and gave me an interest in nature, history and a sense of place. If I can credit myself with 'exploring' anything in my photographs, it's these things. I work occasionally in colour but find black and white a much more subtle and delicate medium which removes images from the familiar and perhaps makes us look at things more closely.

A graduate in English and History, until recently I was a full-time English teacher, and after years studying and teaching 'seize the day/ life is short' texts, finally the message got through. I took up photography about three or four years ago, and the expense of buying a Canon 350D pushed me into learning how to use it properly.

A day turns out to be a slippery thing to seize, but hopefully what you see on these pages is the beginning of something new.

Thanks for looking at my pages, and I hope you enjoy what you see.

Rich.
