Meet the maker Samantha Taylor
.I could waffle on for hours about where it all began and how I learnt to sew, but ultimately Poppykins started to save my sanity. Sounds dramatic but it is not really, it was just about defining myself as something other than a hard working single Mum.....
Textiles has always been my passion but when I moved into the adult world, everything else took over, work, bills, partying, morgages, jobs and so on meant that for a few years I wasn't creative. And then when I fell pregnant with my son, Harry, and had to slow down, my inner creative monster came out and I began to do some cross stitch and Rag Rugging. My obsession with Fabric came as I collected bedding to use for the Rag Rugs and found that some fabrics where just to nice to waste on Rugs and so I began to learn to quilt.
Because money was tight I just learnt from books and my first few quilts where quite frankly Diabolical. I think I sold them at a boot fair for a tenner and was pleased to see the back of them. But like anything the more I practised the better I got and I learnt that taking my time and doing it properly was the only way forward, which is difficult for an impatient person like me, I also learnt from my mistake, unpicking was my least favourite past time but I was determined to get things right.
In 2009 I had my daughter Poppy became a stay at home mum again and found I was running out of room for my makes,(and my fabric stash) the most logical thing was to go back to doing craft fairs but in a more professional way and so Poppykins was born. I registered with HMRC and got business cards made up and started a Facebook page.
So there you have it, I am but one person making everything that you see in my shop with passion and love, sometime I struggle to let my makes go but I know they deserve a good home which is where you guys come in. Thank you for taking the time to have a look at what I do and why, and please, if there is anything else you would like to know or something you would like to make, just get in contact. I am very friendly !!
