Meet the maker Maree Dethick-Jones

Learning to work with glass had been on my 'to-do' list for a long time but, with a part-time job and a family to juggle, I never quite seemed able to find the time to take that desire any further. Then (quite!) a few years back, I found a local course with an enthusiastic tutor and that was it: I was completely and utterly bitten by the bug and my little cottage industry has been growing ever since! The problem I have now is finding enough time to turn all of my ideas into glass - my scribble book is full of ideas waiting to be experimented with!!

I'm lucky enough to have grown up in the beautiful county of Dorset and after a short stint away (to attend university, fly the family nest etc), I moved back to the darkest depths to raise my own family in this fabulous place. I love being able to use my surroundings as inspiration in my work - the rolling hills, ancient hillforts, crashing waves and seashore.

All of the work is handmade by me in my small workshop at home, and tends to focus on either fused and/or traditional leaded glass. I buy large sheets of glass from well-known UK Glass Suppliers from which to cut out my designs. For the fused work, these rough little glassy fellows are then heated in my kiln until the layers of glass melt together and form beautifully smooth and rounded edges. For the more traditional leadwork, the glass is edged in lead-came and soldered together. The fused work lends itself well to lovely little hanging decorations/suncatchers and small bowls/dishes while the traditional lead came work is particularly suited to larger panels and windows.

PAYMENT
• Payment is via Paypal and you don’t have to have a Paypal account to make a purchase using a credit/debit card.
• Please pay promptly; if I do not receive payment within 2 days I will assume you have changed your mind and relist the item.

P&P
• I aim to post within 3-5 working days of receiving cleared payment and use Royal Mail. Unfortunately, Royal Mail have recently implemented huge price increases that I have been forced to pass on. I therefore now try and use more competetive couriers where possible. I always obtain proof of posting.
• Items will be securely packaged in bubble wrap/foam chips/paper/cardboard and combinations there-of! As I often re-cycle packaging to keep the costs down (and keep it out of landfill for a bit longer), it might not look the prettiest but it will be reasonable 'green'!

RETURNS
• I am sure that you will be completely delighted with your piece(s) of glass but in the unlikely event that you are not entirely happy, please contact me within 7 days of receipt.
• If necessary, the item may then be returned within the next 7 days for a full refund (including the original delivery cost).
• It must be well-packaged, unused and in a saleable condition. You are responsible for the return postage and packing.
• For your own piece of mind and protection, I recommend that you use a trackable method of return.

GENERAL INFORMATION
The work on display in the shop are pieces I've completed that are either currently available for sale or can be made to order. It is worth remembering however that because each piece of work is handmade (and even a single sheet of glass can have variations within it) and not factory produced, each piece is unique. I try my hardest to replicate the work but there may inevitably be variations. If this is likely to be a problem, please don't hesitate to contact me before placing an order. With the majority of items, I can then email you a photograph of the actual piece of work I will be sending you for your perusal prior to purchase.
