Meet the maker Katy Day
Hi there, my name is katy and I have been designing and making cards, jewellery and wooden hearts since 2005.
I went to Bournemouth & Poole College of Art and Design many (many!) years ago and achieved a Diploma in Art. After that I decided to train as a primary teacher, specialising in Art and had many happy years getting messy with kids in the classroom...glitter, glue and paint were main features of many lessons!
When my children were born I left teaching to be a full time mum and had a wonderful time encouraging their artistic sides, we even have a whole wall in our house dedicated to their art work! However, I needed to be creating and making things myself and in 2005 my lovely husband bought me a simple jewellery making kit...and there began a near obsession! I made a few pieces for myself, then for friends, and then it was suggested I start selling and I was amazed when people loved what I was making and encouraged me even further.
My work has evolved through the years and continues to do so, I am now at the stage when I want to be making as much of my own charms and pendants as I can, which makes my jewellery unique and many pieces are one-offs. As I collect bits and pieces (which can drive my family mad and cause them embarrassment such as the time I spent hours at the edge of the sea with a spade sifting through the water and sand for timy shells that I just knew I could use somehow...), when I have used up my collections I have to move on to create something else and they are unable to be copied or re-made.
I hope you enjoy browsing through my shop, and if you feel the urge to buy then that's even better!
I share a website with my mum, who is very talented, and you can find us both at happydaydesigns.co.uk where there is a small selection of work from us both.
Come back and visit my shop again soon as who knows what I'll find tomorrow to inspire me...
