Meet the maker Jenny Oldknow

ABOUT ME...

I was born in 1975 in Scunthorpe in the north of England, and always loved to draw and paint as a hobby, but I made the move to full time artist in 2006, after starting a family. I have always been encouraged by my friends and family, commissions and exhibitions followed, and I have never looked back!

I am now a professional award-winning artist living and working in Belper in Derbyshire, UK.
I have had the pleasure of exhibiting and selling my work around the world, completing countless commissions (particulary for my characterful pet portraits) and having my work shown alongside top artists in national exhibitions.

I have a blog at www.jennyoldknow.blogspot.com, where I post my latest paintings, events, and arty news and painting tips.

Find out more about me and my work on my website at www.jennyoldknow.com.

If you want to, you can also follow me on Twitter at @jennyoldknow and Facebook at 'Jenny Oldknow Art'.

ABOUT MY ART...

After experimenting with most mediums, I found that I am most passionate about watercolour painting in a lovely loose and expressive style. I just love the way watercolours have a mind of their own - my job is to just guide them, not to force them and risk losing the unique spontaneous beauty of the medium.

My aim is to capture the character and spirit of the subject, rather than a mere photographic representation. The unpredictable medium of watercolour is ideal for me to portray any subject I choose in this style. A lifelong love of animals make them my number one choice to star in my paintings, but I am also inspired by other parts of the natural world, being a country lass at heart, and living on the doorstep of the beautiful Peak District National Park, so flowers and the landscape also feature heavily in my art. Commissions challenge me and make me push myself into painting subjects I might not necessarily choose myself. I love commissions!

ABOUT MY FOLKSY SHOP...

I sell my original watercolour paintings through galleries, or by commission, but through my Folksy shop I am pleased to offer my range of limited edition giclee prints and art greeting cards.

DELIVERY INFORMATION...

Postage is FREE!. Because of this, I do not always choose the fastest method of transit (to keep costs down) so if you require a particular item super-fast for any reason, then please contact me before you purchase. I am happy to send it by the fastest method. There may be a small extra charge for this.

Prints are sent unmounted and unframed, rolled in a stiff cardboard tube to ensure they don't get damaged in transit. Cards come complete with a white envelope in protective cellophane wrapping. and are sent flat in flat stiff cardboard envelopes to prevent creasing
