Meet the maker Gillian
My name is Gill, and I have been making jewellery since 2012.
I did have a little formal training early on, but I am mainly self-taught which is something that I’m very proud of. I love experimenting and learning new techniques – I don’t think I’ll ever stop doing this, as there are so many things I want to try!
I use a wide variety of materials in my work and wherever possible, I love to incorporate Artisan made components, or ‘art beads’ as they are also known. I source these miniature works of art from all over the world – in fact this is one of my favourite pastimes! I spend many an hour browsing the Internet looking for beads and discovering new artists. I can’t imagine making jewellery without them.
I like to think that my jewellery is fun and colourful, with a feminine, bohemian touch – something a little different from the High Street. I find myself drawn to vibrant colours and warm coloured metals such as brass and copper, and despite living in ‘the suburbs' many of my designs are inspired by nature, birds and flowers.
