Meet the maker Karen Weston
Often I get asked "Where do you get your ideas from?"
Hard to answer simply - a lifetime of looking? a love of colour? a Degree in Design?
i would argue that it is the combination of all of the above plus 10 years working in design and advertising followed by 8 years of slowing life down and observing the everyday with children and the naturally vibrant and colourful world which they inhabit, that has seen me arrive at this point.
I design using colour and shape - always trying to bring the shape element to its most basic and strong whilst helping their colours and qualities to shine.
i love seeing how the simplest of shapes can suddenly come to life when peeled right back and mixed with strong colour and texture.
Children's books have a lot to answer for - I've spent years captivated by them as much as my young sons. Their torn paper/fabric/pen/crayon/paint illustrations constantly stimulate and inspire my ideas, which often store inside me, mixing with all the other elements until exactly when I need them.
i know when my designs are finished when they make me smile every time - I hope they do the same for you.
