Michelle has been in love with the past, and teeny things, her entire life. She grew up watching Shirley Temple films, playing with dolls, paper dolls, miniatures and plasticine. A lifelong doll collector, she began making dolls in 1990, and started sculpting original dolls in 1993.
Since 2012, trading as Dottie Dollie, Michelle has been making and selling handmade dolls, jewellery, & accessories. Her Dollie Face brooches are created from her collection of broken, discarded porcelain doll heads from the early 20th Century German doll factories.
These imperfect characters had lain buried as rubbish for almost a century, before Michelle breathed new life into them, by repairing, and reproducing them. Each brooch is a unique character, hand painted and often with a quirky hat. No two are ever exactly the same.
Michelle loves dancing to crackly old music, and has an almost unhealthy desire for stripey socks! She lives and works in Colchester, Britain's oldest recorded town.
