Welcome to my Folksy shop . I LOVE pottery! I have been making pottery for years ( 25 OMG!). Everything is handmade either by hand building or throwing on the wheel. Everything is then hand painted ( except the chintz transfers. I don’t usually like transfers but these are gorgeous). All my ceramics are a one of a kind original as I really enjoy the research and design process and don’t want to do production runs.
I make mainly jugs, vases, bowls, trinket dishes and boxes. I am inspired by 1950’s design and Scandinavian patterns. I adore rich, deep turquoise and blue glazes especially next to gold. I create two types of floral ranges. One is purely hand painted using brush strokes ( please note some of these jugs have been slip casted as I only learnt how to throw on the wheel during the first lock down). The other is made by using moulds created from flowers picked from my own garden.
I use white earthenware clay . Once the item has been thrown or hand built , fettled and dried , it is bisque fired to 1050 C. Each item is then hand painted and then dipped into transparent glaze and fired to 1020 C. Transfers are added to my chintz range at this point and re-fired to 750 C. And finally, the gold lustre is painted and fired once again to 750 C. Pottery is a long process! Every item is unique- if you want uniformity and mass production you are in the wrong place! If a similar item is required to one which has been sold, it will not be exactly the same.
Items in stock will be posted within 7 days or less ( I go to the post office once a week) using Royal Mail 2nd Class but please contact me if an item is needed urgently. Please read the descriptions carefully and ask any questions to avoid having to make a return. I use Eco friendly packaging.
I also run a Paint a Pot studio in a lovely park in Derby. This is open to the public all year round so everyone can also enjoy painting pottery just like me ! Feel free to visit if ever nearby where you can also browse all my handmade pottery on sale as not all of them are listed here.
