Welcome to The Bead Sanctuary. Handmade Mala Bead Designs by Kusuma. I'm a Pureland Buddhist Minister, creating mala designs in my studio at the foot of the Malvern Hills. I am blessed to live next to the beautiful malvern common with an unspoilt view of the Malvern Hills. I take inspiration from the landscape around me; often incorporating elements from nature in to my work.

Life is a journey with many twists and turns, with one story leading to another. Mala Beads are a carrier of our life's journeys. For me my path to Buddhism started back in 1998 when I began to study Reflexology. I went on to train in a number of therapies and became a Reiki Master Teacher in 2006. It was the traditional Usui practice of Reiki that led me to the Pureland Tradition of Buddhism and in 2008 I stepped in to my first Pureland Temple and never looked back. I became an ordained Buddhist Chaplain in 2010 and Mala Beads have become a significant part of my journey using them to support my work as a Chaplain, as well as using them as part of the meditation lessons that I teach at The Bright Earth Temple.
I Started Making Prayer Beads in 2015 because it was so hard to find traditional Pureland Malas in the UK. I studied traditional techniques for making malas and set about creating original designs that might tell a story to the user. I try and add in beads that evoke a memory, or give emotional support. Some of my designs can be worn around the neck, some pieces on the wrist and sometimes just a strand to keep in your pocket and take out when you need some support.
My studio is in Malvern, England and the beautiful landscape of The Malvern Hills and my garden, often influence my work, with motifs of insects, leaves and flowers.
