Full description

Magical English hare brooch. This hare is decorated with a deeply etched design of oak leaves and acorns.

I hand finish with an antique agate burnisher, highlighting the raised pattern in contrast to the background which is left matt and slightly textured ,this gives the metala slightly sparkly effect, not unlike old fashioned marquesite. This is my original design and is hand cast in fine English pewter in my own workshop.

In Celtic tradition, the hare is sacred to the Goddess and is the totem animal of many lunar goddesses such as Hecate, Freyja and Holda - the hare is a symbol for the moon. The Goddess most closely associated with the Hare is Eostre, or Ostara. The date of the Christian Easter is determined by the phase of the moon.

The story of the Easter bunny originates from the legend of Eostre rescuing a bird from the ravages of winter by changing it in to a hare. The creature retained the ability to lay eggs and presented the Goddess with decorated eggs every spring in thanks for being saved.

Brooches make fabulous Christmas presents........If you know that someone likes jewellery, but you don't know if they have pierced ears or you don't want to guess a finger size, then a brooch really fits the bill. Sometimes people may have allergies and can not wear anything made of metal next to their skin, but a lovely brooch that can be worn on a jacket sweater or a scarf is a lovely personal gift that solves that problem.

Your purchase will be wrapped in tissue paper and p
