Who am I? I ask that same question every day and it's through creativity that we all get a chance to really 'meet our makers'. I love the physicality of making something by hand, the imaginary process and watching this come to life into something you can touch and feel and offer to a baby to cover their precious head with. Sewing was passed on to me through my ancestors and over the generations my own style has emerged from this wisdom.
My name is Cher-oona, sometimes known as Roona, rarely known by Cheroona, mostly known by Cher. I am a proud mother, artist, writer and campainger for Human Rights Issues. I am into everything and anything that supports ethical fairtrading and 100% organic farming.
I would love to travel around the world through WWOOFing with my family, making and selling things as we slowly move along from wwoof host to wwoof host.
We are unschoolers and love it! Our family motto is 'Life i the school, Love is the lesson".
Being a stay at home mother means the world to me, I can care creatively and play with my children and work on my own stuff too!
I believe in being as 'green' as I can be and always ensure I use planet friendly/recycled materials for packaging your bonnet for you!
I am up for making customised bonnets and if you have an old garmet you wish to transform into a bonnet then please get in touch and I will be happy to create one for you! Perhaps an old maternity top etc, as long as it is jersey (t-shirt materials) or soft and stretchy velour etc.
Why bonnets? Bonnets are so important for our young children, still unable to regulate their own body temperatures until they reach about the age of 7 ~ 9 years old. Keeping the heat in where it escapes from and ensuring protection from some kinds of childhood illnesses like middle ear infections. Bonnets are not about fashion but that doesn't mean they can't be beautiful, funky and irresistably gorgeous in everyway possible!
I can make bonnets for premature babies through to large adult sizes and can change the style accordingly. Message me for more info.
I find all recycled/upcycled garmets from my own children's pre-loved's/charity shops/jumble sales/carboot sales and then take them home and wash them several times with ecological non-biological washing liquid with no scent so you can be sure that there are none or not as many chemical residues.
I sourced the 100% Organic and Fairtrade unbleached jersey cotton from Greenfibres and use this for all linings and trims, it is important to have this soft completely chemical free fabric as the lining and it really brings the bonnet together and into a league of it's own!
All bonnets can be machine washed at 30o or handwashed and ensure you use ecological washing liquid to keep the bonnet organic and this way it becomes softer with every wash like all organic cotton does!!
I hope you enjoy looking at my world of oona love grow and see these truly wearable art pieces be made and sold. They are made with love and are one of a kind.
