Rachel Cox Profile

I create one of a kind textiles art pieces, handbags, art quilts, figurines and individual wall hangings. I’m willing to take on commissions. More of my work can be seen at http://www.meltedfabrics.com.

I’ve lived in the Devonshire countryside (South West England) all of my life and find inspiration from my surroundings for a lot of my art. My passion for nature and the environment drives me to recycle and I often use reclaimed fabrics and found objects in my artwork.

A variety of different textures and images motivate my work, I’m interested in the relationship between colours and find inspiration for my work in many places.

My textiles are richly textured: lots of fabrics, lots of different stitching, and beads for an encrusted look. I’m particularly fond of appliqué and layering fabrics and, sometimes, strong fibrous papers. I enjoy using the sewing machine as a tool for drawing into fabric.

I studied Costume for the Screen and Stage BA (Hons) at The Arts Institute at Bournemouth where I produced textiles samples for costumes and learnt pattern cutting, which has benefited me in the design of my 3D pieces. I graduated in 2003 and have been a full time textiles artist ever since.

I have sold work worldwide and have written “How-To” books about my textiles, which areavailable to buy.
