Meet the maker Sinead Finnegan

I am inspired by snap-shots, vintage patterns, fairytales and lyrics. I want to thread memories of something lost, perhaps a possession, a dream or a friend.
Through the use of old discarded fabrics and solitary buttons I create patchwork people;
puzzles with missing pieces…

In my work I use lots of recycled fabric and buttons. The starting point for my embroideries is creating drawings from photos and magazines. I then use vintage fabric and thread to create contemporary embroidered portraits. The textile portraits are created in a variety of ways, both hand and machine sewn and using elements of appliqué and cutouts.

‘Missing Pieces’ collection
I also produce a range of accessories. The missing pieces range includes fabric & button corsages, hair clips, screen printed tote bags and T’shirts featuring my illustrations.
Each corsage and hair decoration is individual created using vintage buttons, lace and fabric.

The inspiration behind the ‘Missing Pieces’ name is the Jigsaw Piece Badge.
I specially commission wooden jigsaws using retro designs and my own illustrations, jigsaw pieces are arranged into pairs and transformed into badges.
These pairs can be worn together or the wearer can keep one and give the other to their ‘other half’
