Meet the maker Jana Bareham

It all started with the one I didn't save. I was moving house and one of my large sideboard cupboards would not fit into my new place. It was free to good home but the only person that came to have a look at it didn't like the 60s style, fair enough. After a few days of shifting stuff and cleaning the old house the only thing left was my old cupboard and it was Sunday when all charity shops are closed. So I've taken it to a recycle centre thinking it will be put on side for somebody to come along and take it home. But...people running the centre have seen more benefit in putting the cupboard in the skip...aaah! Exhausted from the move I've reluctantly let it go.
Since I was a little child I liked drawing and painting, sawing and stitching, anything that involved creating something in my eyes beautiful. But seeing all the wonderful stuff people make around me it didn't feel right adding to this wealth of art and craft with my little things until one day a thought struck! There are many sad old chairs that need a new life and I could use my creativity to make them beautiful and loved again. So from the cupboard I didn't safe to hopefully many old chairs that I will.

Short biography:
Jana has studied architecture at Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Slovakia. She has completed her Part III in architecture studies at Nottingham University and became an ARB member in 2006. In the past 11 years she has worked as an architectural assistant and architect at Burnell Briercliffe Architects and HLM Architects.
Jana also studied fine art, print and sculpture at Public School of Art in Nitra, Slovakia between the years of 1982 and 1989, with some of her artwork being included in the schools exhibitions.
Most recently she learned traditional upholstery in classes run by Wellhead Upholstery near Lincoln. Today she pours her experiences of craft and design and love of beautiful fabrics into creating unique traditionally upholstered chairs and armchairs.
