Meet the maker Ed Boxall
Ed Boxall is an artist, writer and printmaker based in Hastings.
In Ed’s work, warm, earthy images of family life and childhood mix with magic and myth.
Some images are drawn on the spot and capture moments from life: children’s encounters with animals, walking on the beach, eating porridge and peas. Other images are made over time in the studio and show a much more ambiguous sense of poetic solitude: children light fires in sea shells and drift on empty seas. His prints are handmade lino prints, often hand coloured with Indian ink.
His books explore this very personal magical world including ‘The Rooftop Garden’, and his popular ‘Storm Tree Stories’.
“The Books have a wonderful earthy quality, a gentleness and an almost spiritual sense of connection between people and places and the natural world” (Katriona Chapman)
Ed graduated from St Martin’s College in 1999. He has several books published by Walker books. In the past few years he has focussed on printmaking and publishing his own books through his ‘Pearbox Press’.
