Meet the maker Angie Sutton
I am an Art teacher in a boys grammar school - which takes up a lot of my time - but any spare time I have I like to create things. My shop name comes from the surprised reaction I get from most of my students when they realise I actually have another life and interests outside of school and don't actually live in the art room cupboard!
I am inspired by anything I see around me, and like to try my hand at pretty much anything, I love using bright colours and love to mix up different materials. Textures and patterns really interest me, and an idea to make something will often be inspired by a piece of fabric I have found or by something I have seen in one of my students sketchbooks. My degree 10 years ago was in Graphic Fine Arts such as printmaking, film and photography, but I have since turned my hand to teaching myself skills such as ceramics, silversmithing, and trying to remember how to sew and knit....
What I really love to do is to make things to suit others, so if you see anything in my shop you like, or you just like the style of the things I make, then give me a shout and we can design something just for you! I have made jewellery and accessories for just about all my friends in the past, including pieces for weddings and for special birthdays.
Currently I am working on using a laser cutter to experiment with riveting together perspex and sterling silver, so watch this space!
Take a look at my blog, where I am currently doing a bit of a giveaway, plus documenting all my experiments with different techniques in the hope that it might be useful for someone, somewhere!
