Meet the maker Laura MacDonald

About me: I'm a graduate several times over, but have decided to pursue my love of crafts and handmade. I have been a crafter for as long as I can remember and have dabbled in many crafts over the years, some more successfully than others! I love blues, teals and purple, and these come through in my work. I aim to add new items regularly, so please check back to see what's new.

Abstract Cat is on Twitter and Facebook (look for Abstract Cat).

Information (the boring bit and not so small print/disclaimers, but important so please read):

General: Products come from a smoke-free but cat loving home. I try to keep the intrepid felines away from my work, but they live here, so I cannot guarantee all items are fur-free. None of my items are intended for children.

Yarn: I have tried to accurately represent colours in photographs in photographs and colour descriptions, however monitor settings vary considerably, as do individuals' colour perceptions. Jute fibres may occasionally appear in yarn as I use it to tie my skeins in the dye bath. Weights and metreages are based on supplier's specifications and are provided for guidance only - weights are based on undyed weight and a small amount of shrinkage may occur in the dyeing process, so please allow for this when choosing yarn. Most of my colourways are unrepeatable and yarn is usually dyed in lots of 1-4 skeins, so please ensure you purchase enough for your project. I rinse skeins multiple times to ensure they are colourfast and excess dye removed, however I recommend handwashing finished projects separately in cool water the first wash or two. Gentle handwashing is recommended thereafter. Sometimes a small amount of dye may come off on your hands when you wind/work it. This is harmless and will wash off. I reskein all my yarn as this allows me to identify any mill/dye problems (e.g. numerous knots, though occasional knots are an annoying reality).
I am a crocheter rather than a knitter, so I'm unlikely to be able to provide guidance about needle sizes.I recommend winding skeins into a ball/cake before working, rather than working directly from the skein!

Don't have a ball winder and hate winding skeins? 'Cake' winding service usually available on request.

You may find your yarn smells slightly 'woody'. This is because I store my yarn with cedar blocks - a moth deterrent, and smells good too!

Ordering: Folksy only accepts payments using Paypal (a Paypal account is not required to pay using Paypal). Please pay promptly, as unpaid for items will be relisted after three days unless you have contacted me.

International ordering:I now ship internationally. I only accept payment via Paypal in Pounds Sterling (GBP£). Due to insurance restrictions I regret that I am unable to ship to the USA or Canada (any orders placed for shipping to these countries will be cancelled and refunded). Shipping charges have been calculated on the basis of worldwide airmail. If actual shipping cost is significantly lower than the amount paid (i.e. more than £1), I will refund the difference via Paypal. International buyers are reminded that they are responsible for any customs charges incurred, and for any customs restrictions in their country. Orders in excess of £46 will be sent as two packages, or sent using an insured service (available for an additional cost). Although I post all international orders using airmail, please be aware that it can can take several weeks for parcels to reach their destinations, depending on the time of year and international customs. I am located in the UK and all transactions are subject to UK law.

Delivery: All UK items will be posted using Royal Mail First Class, and I aim to post within two days after payment has cleared. If I anticipate a delay I will contact you to advise. I obtain proof of postage for all orders. Royal Mail Special Delivery is available
at additional cost. International orders will be sent using airmail, as above. All orders above £46 will be split into two (or more) parcels, unless an insured service (e.g. Special Delivery) has been paid for.

And finally...: I hope you will be happy with your order. I aim to please, so if you
have any questions please contact me before leaving feedback. If you wish to return an item, please contact me within 7 days of receipt and return the item within 14 days. Return postage is at the buyer's expense except where the item is defective (and this was not pointed out at time of sale). For your protection I recommend that you use Recorded Delivery for returns.

Thank you and enjoy! (I'm happy to be blogged about, but would appreciate a message telling me where I've been featured - I'm curious!)
