From a very young age I enjoyed seeing ancient pots and vases in museums and used to wonder what it would be like to be able to make such amazing things.
I started ‘potting’ on and off in the 1990’s, but from the last 2 years I have been making pottery regularly and I absolutely love it!
So TulipCeramics was created!!!
I love the feel of the clay and the excitement of opening the kiln and seeing the results from my efforts.
I work in my studio which is attached to my house in Buckinghamshire.
All my work is handcrafted. I use a variety of techniques: the ancient form of pinching, making shapes with your fingers from a ball of clay, and Kurinuki, the Japanese art of hollowing out a lump of clay to form different shapes. I sometimes drape clay over a homemade mould and add various textures to get interesting results.
There are many wonderful glazes and I love experimenting and trying different combinations.
I like the idea of the pottery not being uniform or very exact in proportions, this makes each piece unique.
My pottery is functional, but at the same time it can be decorative and beautiful to look at!
