Original fine art prints, each one made individually by hand

Hello, I'm Jane Duke. I am a fine art printmaker and painter (but these days mostly a printmaker) at Stoneflower Studio, part of my home in York which I share with my family and cats.

I use relief and intaglio methods, including collagraph, linocut, woodblock and drypoint etching. My subject matter is often places, wildlife, glimpses and experiences from my daily life in Yorkshire. I try to describe the visible world in ways which look beyond first impressions, encouraging the viewer to pause and reassess what they see every day. Each print is an original artwork, as the handmade process means no two are exactly identical.

For many years before I entered printmaking I had been a watercolour artist and portrait painter. Things were going well; my work was sold and commissioned across the UK and featured in national publications. But then a chance conversation with a collagraph printmaker opened a new world to me. I found that printmaking offered a natural development and progression for my work. I went back to the classroom to start from scratch learning the skills, techniques and vocabulary of printmaking and now here I am.

When I'm not making my own work, I'm one of the organisers of the annual York Open Studios event and I am also a member of York Artworkers and York Printmakers. I have been teaching workshops since 2007 and currently run one and two day classes for printmaking beginners.
