One man, one workshop, lots of saws

I'm Kevin, and Cobalt was my cat. I got him when I was 16, and he was named after the guitarist from the band 'Zodiac Mindwarp and the Love Reaction'

When I was in my 20s I opened a comic shop, and the shop was named after the cat, who was named after the guitarist. The shop had a very brief life, but the cat had a long and happy one.

I started Cobalt Creations (named after the Cat, not the comic shop or the guitarist) in 2019 selling record storage crates made from materials more commonly used in the construction industry, but I was seeing a lot of waste so I developed the 'Cobalt Propagation Station' to make from my offcuts, these rapidly became way more popular than the record storage crates were. Then the pandemic hit, and afterwards material costs made that side of things unviable.

In the meantime, me and a few other volunteers for Leigh Film Society had built a cinema from reclaimed materials, and I came to love attempting to make something that looked beautiful from something that would usually end up in a skip.

And hopefully, the story continues...
