About Bee Everett Design

Bee Everett Design

Art and textiles from original designs inspired by nature, each piece is printed and crafted slowly by hand

I relocated back in 2012, exchanging suburban London for the serenity of rural North Devon. Inspired by the natural beauty of my new surroundings, I took up painting and printmaking and from there it was just a small step to the discovery of fabric printing, rekindling my love of textiles.

I now produce predominantly illustrative and stylised work in acrylics, relief printmaking and handprinted textiles, employing both traditional and digital art forms. I then sew my unique textile prints into furnishings and personal accessories.

With designs derived primarily from the natural world of flora and fauna, the overall mood of my work is contemporary, colourful and sometimes injected with an element of fun and a nod to local Devon landmarks.

The technique I use to hand print onto textiles and other substrates is known as sublimation, read more about my three stage process here...

STAGE 1: DESIGN
It all begins with the seed of an idea sketched out on my iPad. As I steer the design through various stages of development, it often morphs into something very different to what I initially had in mind!

STAGE 2: PRINT
Next in the process is a trial run to test the colours and make adjustments where needed, after which the designs are printed onto high release papers… these are produced using sublimation dyes in a converted inkjet printer.

Once cured, the paper is secured face down onto the fabric, covered with a Teflon sheet, and pressed at a high temperature with a heat press. The heat rapidly disperses the dyes which then bond with the fibres of the fabric, producing a highly stable finish. The design is transferred from the paper to the fabric and is immediately permanent, whilst the feel and drape of the fabric remains entirely unaltered (no vinyl here!)

Depending on the product, multiple pressings are often required… one scarf may require up to 18 pressings!

STAGE 3: MAKE
Almost there! The final stage of the process is to sew my unique textile prints into the furnishings and personal accessories you see here on Folksy. To be able to execute the entire process from start to finish in my tiny studio is just soooo satisfying!
