Hi, I'm Heather, a geeky Medieval goth. I create lace using the historical technique of shuttle tatting in my craft room on the Kent coast.
I first found this beautiful craft when my Mum showed me a tatted shawl she'd created in goldfingering thread. I knew there and then that I wanted to try it out and after many frustrating hours of creating a knotted mess, I finally understood the 'flip' needed to slide the knots along the core thread. I started making bookmarks from a tatting book and loved it so much that I wanted to share it with others and so Tatania Rosa was born.
What's in a name:
I wanted something that felt ethereal and ended up using a variation of Titania, Queen of the fairies. I changed it to Tatania with an 'a' as I wanted to include tatting in the name. I then added Rosa to finish it off.
My business has evolved over time, some designs I've discontinued, some I've been making since I started but I've always tried to keep it true to who I am. I'm a big lover of nature, fantasy art, the Medieval period and gothic architecture and I try to incorporate that into my work.
