Bespoke Furniture & Kitchen maker since 1988, from small free standing pieces to fully fitted kitchens

Since a very early age Richard had a passion for all things wood based thanks to an inspirational woodwork teacher. It seemed an obvious choice of career when he left school. From running a timber yard to working in an Antique store restoring period pieces of furniture, he learned both the properties of wood and how it should be milled and prepared to how furniture was constructed correctly through the ages to ensure longevity. It was a natural progression to go from milling timber, restoring antiques to crafting his own. In 1988 he made the bold decision to strike out on his own with no capital but a lot of knowledge. Starting with the booming Pine trade, he sought to make better than the average quality pieces however, as the market became saturated with cheap inferior foreign imports, he quickly moved onto offering a fully bespoke service using other timbers and building truly made to measure pieces. Over the years, the market moved from Pine to Oak and finally it seemed that painted rather than polished wood was becoming vogue. At first bemused why people would want a hardwood, properly constructed, quality timber item covered in paint, he soon picked up a paint brush and roller and set about learning a new trade. In 2010 his wife Marion joined the business as the finisher and painter allowing Richard to concentrate on the making. Together they also offer a full design service and have a small team of fitters at their disposal to ensure the fitted furniture & kitchens are installed. In between the bread and butter business of constructing made to measure pieces, they enjoy sourcing more unusual timber and in between jobs, will design, craft and produce some items for general sale.
