Hello, welcome to Arabella’s Attic! I design and hand craft accessories such as tote bags, coin purses, cosmetic bags, hand bags and jewellery. I love all things retro and vintage, and this is reflected in the items that I make. I was inspired to start designing and making by my Grandmother - Arabella was the name of her dressmaker’s mannequin.
A major influence on my work is Victoriana. Some of my favourite themes that regularly feature in my designs are Paris, hot air balloons, swallows and doves, favourite storybook characters, mermaids, pirates, fairies and the occasional dragon. Sometimes, I like to add a touch of steampunk or gothic.
For my bags and purses, I work with a range of hand-picked fabrics of different colours and patterns, mostly in cotton or cotton linen. Many of the fabrics that I use draw on vintage and retro influences for their designs. I like to add individual charm to our bags and purses by incorporating beads, buttons, ribbons and fastenings. Some of my smaller purses include a keyring decorated with suitable retro looking charms and beads.
My hair accessories, jewellery and other small gift items often incorporate cabochons that I make myself using carefully selected retro themed images. I like to use a range of new and second hand beads, and particular favourites are Czech glass beads, glass pearls and frosted glass beads teamed with antique bronze findings, and combined with charms.
Above all, I love producing one off pieces that are affordable, and that can be treasured and enjoyed. I hope you enjoy exploring my attic.
