This listing is for 100 grams of DK Superwash Merino wool yarn that has been hand dyed using natural plant dyes.
This yarn is a DK weight suitable for knitting, crochet, nalbinding or weaving.

The wool yarn kit contains 4 skeins of wool dyed in different colours using natural plant materials. The natural dyed colours are different with each kit. There are no repeats.
Total weight of yarn kit: 100 grams
Skein weight: 25 grams
Each skein has approx. 50 meters
The wool yarn is a DK weight

Suggested knitting needle size: 4.5- 5.5 mm
The plant dyed yarn is packaged is packaged in an organza mesh bag that can be re-used. All of my Indie Art Yarns are dyed in small batches, making each yarn unique.
The yarns are pre-mordanted using natural alum or tannins that prepare the yarn to absorb the natural colour pigments.
All yarns are hand washed, dried and re-skeined after the dye process is complete. There may still be some residual plant residue in the yarns that will naturally fall off.

After some time away - I have just re-opened my Shop and will be re-stocking with my latest Handmade items and craft supplies.

The natural dyes are created using plants, leaves, flowers, tree barks and minerals that have been used and tested through the ages. Naturally dyed colours fade gently yet remain beautiful.
Some of the dye plants that I use to create the many shades of the rainbow are:
Reds: Madder root, Brazilwood, Cochineal
Yellows: Weld, Fustic, Dyers Greenwood, Flame of the Forest
Blues: Indigo, Woad, Japanese Indigo
Purples and Greys: Alkanet, Logwood
I love to dye rainbows of colour using natural dye plants. The beauty of using natural plant dyes, is that all of nature's colours are unique yet harmonious, so you can mix and match them together. Not to be repeated. Naturally dyed yarns yield softer shades of colour than synthetic dyes. Natural dyed yarns will also gently fade over time, but the colours still remain beautiful. I hope that you will enjoy creating something new with the yarns as much as I have enjoyed making them.
