The perfect, stylish solution to desktop clutter!

This desktop version of a Japanese toolbox is the epitome of Desk Art. It has form and function – somewhere great to store all those little bits and pieces on your desk and lovely to look at too.

It measures 23cm long, 17cm wide, and 6.5cm high (9” x 4.5” x 2.5” approx.) and is made from aged birch which gives it a more mellow colour, compared with the bright white more often seen.

It is totally handmade and finished in natural beeswax.

This box is a miniature version of the type of toolbox used by Japanese craftsmen to keep their tools in. It has chamfered carrying handles at each end and the removable lid is ‘locked’ by a wedge of wood – just like the real thing.

The box is big enough to be useful but small enough to sit quietly on your desk and not get in the way.

I've made a few of these full-size for my own tools and I think the design is a wonderful, simple example of how Japanese woodworkers blend simplicity with form and function.
