Starting in New York's Meatpacking District, the High Lines carves a mile and a half route northwards on the west side of the island of Manhattan through the neighbourhood of Chelsea before terminating at the edge of the West Side Yard, overlooking the Hudson River.
Entering the High Line brings you up above the streets of the city, away from the traffic and noise of the road and into an elevated walkway resplendent with vegetation and the space to think from where you can view the city streets afresh. Diller, Scofidio and Renfro's project is more than just an architectural one, it brings in landscape architects, ecologists and urban planners to create a unique urban park for everyone.
