Full description

his large yet lightweight pendant features a feather shaped piece of fordite bezel set in sterling silver. The reversible setting allows it to be worn with either side showing, the 'front' has a concentric circle pattern which reminds me of the eye of a peacock feather whilst the back is a more ripple pattern. Both sides have a colour palette featuring lots of sparkly silver with white, red, dark green and bright blue, the front has been polished to a glossy shine whilst the back is more satin effect. The fordite measures a sizeable 54mm by 25mm excluding the large bail. Comes gift boxed with a chain but you could easily swap it to a ribbon or leather cord if you wanted to.

Fordite is layers of cured paint that built up in the spray booths at car plants. The panels would rest on rails during spraying, paint would land on these and after many trips through the curing ovens a hard build up of 'fordite' would be formed - most was removed and thrown away but some went home with the workers who realised it could be cut and polished to show the coloured layers. I cut and polish this material myself and the guy I purchased the rough from believed it to have come from the General Motor's plant at Lake Orion, the colour palette is consistent with their paint charts for the mid 2000's.
