Wool and felt wall hangings have traditionally served both as art and with functional purpose to provide insulation to the walls and keep the draft out. Felt art is very soft and tactile and is meant to be touched.
The inspiration for this piece comes from Kandinsky's abstract circles.

Full description
This felt art piece was made with pure merino wool using a wet felting method and finished with crewel work embroidery using hand spun yarns. The design is made of bright and colourful circles on a black background.
Size: approx. 26 inches x 39 inches
It takes about 3 days to complete a felt tapestry of this size. First the wool is carefully placed into several layers and the design is 'painted' on with the coloured wool. Then the piece is wet felted. After it dries, it is embellished with embroidery stitching.
I have left the edges of the wall hanging in their slightly rough and natural felted state. The wall hanging is backed with a natural cotton fabric and is ready to hang on the wall or can be mounted onto a board.
The felt art can be easily washed in cold water. Roll it in a towel to remove the excess water and then lay flat to dry. Please do not wash this in a washing machine or put into a dryer. Wool felt will continue to shrink.
