Button Mosaic Coffee Table
Description
It's one of my favourite pieces yet - this MOSAIC BUTTON TABLE. Taking an old G Plan table, I then remove the glass top and replace it with a mosaic made from buttons, adding modern decoration to a recycled classic.
Launched in 1952, G Plan Furniture responded to the desire for British families to have modern, affordable furniture as the country recovered from the Second World War. The optimism and ingenuity of the designs means the styles still have strong resonance today.
I source the G Plan coffee table, with its modernist curved leg design, renovate the wood, then remove the glass to replace it with a decorative mosaic of buttons, giving the table a personal, and personalised, edge - no two button tables are ever the same.
It's the intuitive use of mosaic that makes the tables so appealing to me - because the table is round, it makes sense to then use round tiling for the decoration. That the tiles are buttons adds yet more charm.
The table is made from Teak and measures 84cm in diameter and stands 46cm high.
