A wall hanging of a pair of pewter embossed art deco ladies wearing elaborate hats and dresses . Dressed for the races maybe ? Their hats and dresses are trimmed with Amethyst Swarovski crystals which compliments their necklaces and bracelets.
I emboss and engrave the image from a thin pewter sheet using only hand tools. I then fill the back of the high relief areas with pure bees wax to prevent them from denting. To finish off the pewter repousse, I then "age" the peweter by applying a patina which I then polished off to produce the antique silver look.
I then cut out the outline, mount the image onto a black mount board which I then glue to a solid wood plaque. The timber is from Central Africa and is called Kiaat which we plane and thickness ourselves. Finally the entire piece is sprayed with a clear lacquer to protect both the pewter and the wood. This also eliminates the need for special cleaning. All it needs is a wipe down with a soft lint free cloth.
As these pieces are light in weight (500 grams) (1.1 lb) they don't need any fixings on the back for hanging. They are at their best when totally flat against the wall. To achieve this, we use 4 Strips of foam mount tape which holds them securely against the wall. However, we can drill a small hole to house a picture pin if you prefer.
