It's blackberry picking season again - and while out on a sunny afternoon picking gorgeous ripe berries I spotted a bramble leaf that looked so much like a butterfly shape that I just had to pick it and turn it into a piece of jewellery.
I painted the leaves with many layers of silver clay before firing to turn them into 999 fine silver. I then used sterling silver wire to create the body section and join it to the wings.
The symbolic associations of the butterfly around the world and throughout many cultures are endless!
In China, butterflies have become a symbol for long life and in Japan they are associated with marital bliss. We often think of butterflies as representing a change and new life. The Ancient Greeks believed that they were the souls of those who had passed away.

This unique necklace is a beautiful butterfly created in silver using a real bramble leaf.
The wings are made from 999 fine silver and the body is made from 925 sterling silver wire. The pendant is supplied on a 16" sterling silver rope chain and is packaged in a black gift box, ready to wear or give as a gift. The butterfly itself measures approx. 3 x 4 cm.
