Item details
The ode is pyrographed onto untreated wood which will shrink and decay reflecting the acorn's demise in the poem. The piece is playful and lighthearted but looks at issues of ageing and the feeling that life can be wasted away waiting for the right moment. The acorn represents an opportunity, some occurance which had the potential to grow or simply provide pleasure but wasn't taken up for reasons best known to the squirrel and then the opportunity was lost. It is not a tale of woe or a lesson, it simply reflects what happens in life to everyone at some point. The pyrographing is rough and uneven to eminate how a squirrel might have written it, wood being an obvious choice for a squirrel.
