This unusual purse has been made with tussah silk fabric. Tussah is a textured silk and can be useful in appliqué or as a background for embroidery. On the front of the purse I have appliqué various flowers and embellished them with sequins, beads, buttons and embroidery. The purse has a mustard colour zip with a zip pull that I have made from faux suede using macramé and added some wooden beads.

The purse has been interfaced to help keep its shape and the lining is a practical heavy weight calico. When I made the purse I had no particular usage in mind for it, so it offers huge opportunity for the recipient to make use of the purse in whatever way they desire.

The purse has been designed by myself and hand crafted to a high standard. The purse would make an excellent gift for a friend or relative.

I purchased some tussah silk and decided to make a purse. Tussah Silk is produced in India by wild silk moths instead of the cultivated moths used for the white, smooth silks. Tussah silk moths feed on a wide range of vegetation giving an unexpected variety of natural colours, including cream, stone, honey and deeper brown. The characteristic honey colour is often produced where the moth feeds on oak leaves.
