These bookmarks are made by me applying the traditional Hungarian embroidery style of Kalocsa. The style is unique because of its colour usage and the method of the embroidery itself. All Kalocsai embroidery represent nature using the motives of flowers found in the gardens and the fields in Hungary -squill, violet, lily, lilac, pansy, forget-me-not, rose, tulip...

Each of my bookmarks have a different pattern making all of them special, so the one you receive might be slightly different to the ones above. I strictly only use recycled or reused white fabrics to create them and 100% cotton threads. I sew the fabric by hand (not using a sewing machine) to be totally eco friendly. The embroidery is handmade as well of course. They are delicate, but machine washable. Feel free to contact me with any special requests. Thank you for your interest! :)

I find this style of embroidery fascinating and I decided to learn it from old Hungarian ladies. Embroidering was a traditionally reputable pastime in Hungary and it took precision, patience and skill to create the beautiful pieces. As for the patterns, not everyone would create them, there used to be so-called pattern-writers whose designs were used locally. After studying the techniques, shapes, patterns and arrangements I started to create my own Kalocsai style embroidery which I enjoy greatly.
