I was asked to make a silver gingerbreadman for a customer when I first started to make jewellery. She didn't like any of the versions I did and then proceeded to show me an example of one she wanted me to copy. I didn't do it, obviously, we parted company and I was left with 4 sterling silver gingerbreadmen and no payment! I soon found there were no shortage of people who DID like them and then I also found they were going off as presents to people in Australia and New Zealand. That's when I came up with the idea of either a passport or adoption paper but because I feel very personally attached to each of them, I decided on adoption papers instead. They come as pendants or brooches, in sterling silver, pewter and of course, copper. Using pewter enables me to make a silver- looking item but because the material isn't as expensive as sterling silver, I can pass on that saving to whoever wishes to adopt him.
