Full description
When I'm not drawing small beasts, I'm making papier mache birds. It is an entirely delicious thing to do.
Each bird is unique, hand made, no mould, all beginning as rolled up squidged up gluey torn up newspaper in my happy trembling paws.
Each time I begin I survey the resulting birdy that has emerged, taking its first drying out session, and wonder what it'll become.
Because for me, it's a two way process - partly me and partly the bird. I certainly have some intentions, but it really isn't long before the bird has too.
So this one seemed clear quite early on that he wanted to be orange - and then that he wanted to hold a tinkly bell.
(I'm not trying to sound fey here - I'm telling you sincerely it's what happens.)
And so the birdies come to life for me.
This bright fellow is just over 3 inches/7.5 cm tall, and is decorated with tissue papers foils and acrylic, and finished with a little heart shaped bead and silvery bell.
