I wanted to use some hand sewing and piercing techniques in a hand crafted lampshade and thought a natural cream coloured paper would make a good base to work on giving a nice warm glow when the shade is lit.
I used a needle, my trusty sewing machine, cotton embroidery thread and upcycled old books to make this shade.(The book used was slightly damaged and therefore no readable books were harmed to make the lampshade).

Full description
Unique, hand crafted and completely original small coolie lampshade. The lampshade features cream paper that has been decorated with hand and machine sewing, pierced holes and decorative ripped print that has been up-cycled from old books.
The lampshade really comes to life when lit and features two cut out triangles that have been pierced around the edge with cream and beige thread criss crossed over the hole which has been backed with sheer cream fabric. The shade also features two panels that have decorative ripped print that have been securely attached and a panel that features a machine sewn lined pattern.
The shade is finished with cream binding around the top and bottom edge, has been backed with flame retardant PVC and fits most small UK lamp fittings (25 -30mm). This shade would make a lovely, unique bedside lamp shade or table lampshade adding a beautiful warm glow to the room.
Although this shade was made as a one-off I am happy to consider making a shade using similar techniques in different sizes and styles - please contact me with any queries.
