Full description
Layers of intertwined fibres and yarns, felted together, form the hedgerow background for the hand-embroidered foxgloves which form the focus of this design. The second small hanging in this wildflower series.
Sky blue wool fibers have been felted to a background of kunin felt (produced from recycled plastic bottles) using an embellisher machine. A wide variety of yarn snippets, carefully collected from other yarn projects, have been added to represent the hedgerow and the grass verge at its base. Foxglove spikes have then been stitched in a combination of crewel wool, embroidery threads and knitting ribbon. Ox-eye daisies and buttercups complete the hedgerow flowers. French knots, in pale blue and yellow straight stitches, are scattered in the grass to represent speedwell and common vetch. A lovely summer scene.
Ribbon sleeves are provided, at the top and bottom of the hanging, into which lengths of narrow dowel have been slid, cut to hide behind the hanging. A cotton thread hanging loop is attached to the top dowel. Should you wish to frame this embroidery, the dowels may be removed. The back of the piece is neatened by a second piece of felt.
